CLEAR/J-PAL South Asia recently conducted an advisory engagement on ‘Education Programmes for Impact.’ The advisory was designed to support four non-governmental organisations in the Indian education sector in developing comprehensive Theory of Change frameworks for their programmes.
This two-part advisory began with virtual lectures on key concepts in monitoring and evaluation, Theory of Change, and a primer on impact evaluations. The concluding session shared insights from research led by J-PAL affiliated researchers within education, and presented examples of measurement tools used to measure key outcomes of interest across learning and non-cognitive outcomes. These interactive sessions provided an opportunity for the participating organisations to collaboratively engage in the concepts covered and learn from each other’s practical experiences.
Over the following week, participant organisations independently applied the theoretical frameworks from the lectures to design a Theory of Change and measurement framework for their programmes. This was then followed by one-on-one advisory sessions led by Dr. Harini Kannan (Research Scientist, J-PAL South Asia) and Sohini Mookherjee (Lead, Training - CLEAR/J-PAL South Asia). The advisory involved an in-depth discussion on the frameworks presented by the organisations.
